Terry Egan from Rugby & Northampton A.C. reached a milestone on Saturday at Cofton Park by competing in & completing his 100th Birmingham & District Cross Country League race. A small presentation was made to him to commemorate this achievement. Bryan Acford kindly forwarded us some more details on his achievement.

Egan made his debut on November 2nd 1985 in Division 4 at Sutton Coldfield and with only four league races available each year it has taken him 27 years to reach this milestone. During that time there was an 11 year period from 1985 to 1996 when he led home Northampton Phoenix 27 times, which included two overall race victories helping him to secure individual back to back titles in 1986 and 1987 for Divisions 4 and 3 respectively.

The longest consecutive streak he achieved was 31 races, in which he scored in the team every time and then in 1994 clinched a best ever 10th place for a division two race.
After notching up 65 races for Phoenix the club joined forces with Rugby in 2002 at the same time as gaining promotion to Division 1. Egan went on to make the scoring six a total of 64 times.

Although he was almost 42 before he competed in Division 1, with a highest of 83rd, in recent years he has been content to score in the B team ( 32 times) and now, at the age of 52 has achieved that magical century.

He said, " I've failed to complete ten races since I first started, two with illness, four with injury, which included 2 dnf's and another four when I took a year off from competition, otherwise I would have got there sooner. I played it safe and enjoyed my 100th race by just jogging round as this achievement meant so much to me in the sport that I love so much."
